Zoe Graystone grew up a normal young woman in Chicago as the daughter of local computer engineer and a local plastic surgeon. She had always loved learning and never backed down from a challenge, but at the same time she wanted to blaze her own path outside of Seattle and maybe to finally be seen for herself and not for her last name. But all that changed the year the Space Needle was the target of terrorists. She had survived just by chance since she had just left to go on her lunch break and seeing the fireball fly out of the gift shop. Zoe did what she could to help in the aftermath and to the world she seemed normal but a tiny bit darker. Most figured it would pass with some time and support.

But in the months after the attack on the Sears Tower she changed and not for the better. Zoe slipped into a massive depression that most figured was due to the loss of several close friends in the attack, not knowing Zoe had been there due to her part time job in the gift shop. Zoe was not even scheduled to be there but had taken an extra shift in order to make a little extra money for an upcoming trip with friends come summer vacation so she was racked with guilt. The woman she covered for was among those killed in the attacks so that simply made matters worse.

In the worst of her depression Zoe lost weight (and was accused of having an eating disorder. It was just her pain was so deep she simply stopped eating.) and her art work grew as dark as her demons. She also broke down several times in the hallways of Athena Academy (where she graduated from) and she kept drawing everything that happened that afternoon (via ongoing nightmares of the attack) and it took her counselor along with her father (who had studied art in college as a minor) to unravel how deep the pain really was. But with counseling, support from her family and close friends, briefly going on anti-depression meds, eventually going back to her job at the Sears Tower (but she moved to the nearby coffee shop on counselor suggestion) and eventually being able to say goodbye to her lost friends Zoe was able to completly recover. But that period is still very much of the Zoe she is today.

Upon her graduation from high school her counselor encouraged Zoe to consider college out of state. "New beginnings and being able to completely start over, you'll simply be Zoe and not the girl who survived the Space Needle attacks." Zoe was reminded and that sealed her decision. Due to her experience with depression Zoe decided to major in psychology at a out of state school along with a minor in art, for herself since she has real talent. In the process she found a flyer for Elmwood on campus and saw they were looking for staff.

Another decision was made, Zoe Graystone applied for a full time library position and was offered not only that but a part time position as a tutor. After a call to her counselor in Seattle and realizing this may be the missing piece of her healing Zoe accepts both posts and is scheduled to start at the end of her spring vacation from school. She is also thinking about going into art therapy on the advice of several professors.

Extra Info:
Survived depression due to attack on the Sears Tower, she is still prone to occasional epsiodes but nothing as severe as before.
Attending school nearby and living in a nearby boarding house while apartment hunting.
Still close to her family with the occasional trip home to visit.
Talented artist, her niche is comic book style art and fashion. She is also known for her webcomic set in an outer space of the future (to explain Cylons and things from BSG canon)
Zoe may be a library staffer but she also wants to help where she can, she has been known to befriend younger patients and be that sounding board some of them need. For some reason its easier to go to her than the doctors at times (she does not mind in the least).

I would also love for one of the doctors to link Zoe to what happened in Chicago in terms of her depression. Her webcomic is also a possible plot point as well.

Hey I'm Zoe Graystone (but call me Zoe) and I'm new to Elmwood. I'm working in the library as a assistant along with being a tutor for the younger patients so most of you will meet me before too much longer. But I have experience with mental illness having survived a bount of depression a few years ago (due to the Space Needle attack in Seattle). So I get what people are facing and well I can only hope I'm able to do some real good here.

I'm an psychology major along with an art minor so that should explain my sketchbook and I love meeting people so peek in the libray and say hi!

In the meantime what is everyone's favorite book?
